چکیده

Abstraet--A new approach to digital implementation of continuous-scale mathematical morphology is presented. The approach is based on discretization of evolution equations associated with continuous multiscale morphological operations. Those equations, and their corresponding numerical implementation, can be derived either directly from mathematical morphology definitions or from curve evolution theory. The advantages of the proposed approach over the classical discrete morphology are demonstrated.

Two Frontiers in Morphological Image Analysis: Differential Evolution Models and Hybrid Morphological/linear Neural Networks

In this paper we briefly describe advancements in two broad areas of morphological image analysis. Part I deals with differential morphology and curve evolution. The partial differential equations (PDEs) that model basic morphological operations are first presented. The resulting dilation PDE, numerically implemented by curve evolution algorithms, improves the accuracy of morphological multisca...

Assessing Critical Thinking Ability via the Writing Process: Developing and implementing a Rating Scale

The present exploratory mixed methods study aimedto develop a scale for assessing critical thinking (CT) ability of Iranian EFL learners. The study wasconducted in three phases. In phase one, the features of CT components were examined in the writingsof 120 participants. A holistic and an analytic scale were developed based on their performance in exploiting the components of CT and the fea...

Multiscale Morphological Segmentations Based on Watershed, Flooding, and Eikonal PDE

The classical morphological segmentation paradigm is based on the watershed transform, constructed by flooding the gradient image seen as a topographic surface. For flooding a topographic surface, a topographic distance is defined from which a minimum distance algorithm is derived for the watershed. In a continuous formulation, this is modeled via the eikonal PDE, which can be solved using curv...

Model of morphology evolution in the growth of polycrystalline b-SiC films

The growth of b-SiC films via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has been under intensive investigation because this is viewed to be an enabling material for a variety of new semiconductor devices in areas where silicon cannot effectively compete. However, the difficulty in achieving single-crystal or highly textured surface morphology in films with low bulk defect density has limited the use of b...
